Nailed It – How to Find Your H-Spot

H-Spot? Ohhhhh yeah. Sounds like a good time. Oh, wait. The “H” stands for Hospitality. You love the industry, got a few years under your belt… Ready to take the next step? Let’s face it. With our team reaching all 50 states and Canada, there is a lot of room for job opportunity here. You want to be the decision maker; you want to be the one moving up.  The good news is that we have the best of the best information to help you land that job.

First Things First...

typingFirst and foremost, let’s be honest… You have an informed and up-to-date resume (see more tips here). Do the research for the job that you want. Focus on an area you would like to work in, and research terminology and specifications for that area. Use those keywords words and terms in your resume to speak the same language to the hiring manager.

Still not getting a lot of hits? Maybe it’s time to revamp. You need to make sure that you are the right fit for this job. Jobs are not “one resume fits all."

Pro Tip: Make sure your resume is the right kind of resume for the job you want. Read more about resume types here.

Know Your Role…

You are educated. You have the experience. You have a great resume. What is the next step? Applying for the right job is key. Knowing what you want and having the tools to get it is half the battle.

When looking for a new job, ask yourself:

  • Am I qualified enough?
  • Am I too qualified?
  • Will this position leave room for growth and improvement?
  • Will this job help me reach my goal?

Often times, going to individual company websites is like finding a needle in a haystack. The good news is that we have all that information in one easy-to-navigate place. Plus, you’re not posting your personal information on a site with your phone number, address, and email address open for many to see.

Pro Tip: Gecko Hospitality has jobs sorted by “Area of Specialization”. Love the restaurant pace? Easily search those available jobs. Casino management calling your name? That’s here too.

If You Don’t Look Good, You’re Not Getting Any…

straighten-tiePeriod. If your resume doesn’t look good, you’re not getting a callback. If your appearance doesn’t look good at the interview, you’re not getting a callback. If your skills don’t look as good in person as they do on paper, you’re not getting a callback. Get the picture?

Pro Tip: When in an interview, don’t be a blockhead. Turn your cell phone on silent, make eye contact, and follow up with a "Thank You" note.
