In order to know if you’ll love your new career, make sure the company that posted the job is legitimate. The first thing you should do is make sure the company or the job posting is not a scam. Search the company and if they aren’t anonymous, your next step will be to start researching them to make sure they are trustworthy. You can research the company by simply going to Google and looking up reviews. Trusted sites like Glassdoor, Indeed, or LinkedIn is another way to see what past employees think of the employer. Next should be to research the history of the company, how professional the website looks, or how long the company has been in business. This will give you more insight to what their company is about and to see if their mission and vision statement is something you can get behind.
The Job Description
Even if the job title says “manager” make sure to look for the job description to see what your duties would be if you do end up landing the job. Some companies put the title “manager” in the description to attract more people into applying for the job. Make sure you are what they are looking for. When the ad says, you must have 3 years’ experience, this means they are looking for someone with that experience in the industry. When the ad says, we would preferably like someone with 3 years’ experience, it means they would like to have someone with experience but it isn’t necessary and they would be willing to train the right person.
Usually, at the end of a job posting, it will explain how to apply for the job. There are a few things to look for such as special instructions on how to apply. Some companies do request more than just a resume when applying for a job. Sometimes they may request a well-written cover letter, samples of previous work, or even a quick 60-second video conveying your “elevator speech.” If you are applying for a job that requires an extra step, make sure to do it as they may not consider you otherwise.
Questions To Ask Yourself
When you find a new career that meets all of the categories above, you may ask “what’s next”? It’s time to make sure that the salary offered and the benefits offered are what you are looking for. You should ask yourself if you need medical, dental, and vision insurance from your future employer. Companies frequently list other benefits, such as savings plans, paid time off, or other special perks that employees will receive. While they may not have benefits listed in the ad, if you do get an interview for the position, you can ask about benefits at the right time during the interview. The more you know ahead of time, the better it is in order to make the perfect decision for you.
Questions That Can Come up in an Interview
- What are you looking for in a new position? Make sure to be specific and look at what the job ad offers.
- What is a time you exercised leadership? When the interviewer asks this question, they are looking for specific details on how you handled working with others. Give examples on how you overcame certain situations.
- Why should we hire you? This can be a scary question to get asked if you are not prepared. Make sure to let the interviewer know that you do great work, you work well in a team, and that you are a better candidate than the others.
- Do you have any other questions? Make sure you come to an interview ready with questions you have about the job. This can be questions about the company culture, the company’s growth, or even why the interviewer likes to work there.
