Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sous Chef for a prestigious private club in Connecticut. This is a vital leadership role, acting as second-in-command to the Executive Chef. The Sous Chef ensures daily kitchen operations run smoothly, delivering exceptional dining experiences for members, guests, and events. This demanding position requires a balance of culinary expertise, leadership ability, and operational know-how.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and executing a la carte menus, seasonal offerings, and special event catering (weddings, tournaments, and member events).
- Oversee food preparation and presentation to maintain high standards of quality, taste, and aesthetics.
- Supervise, train, and schedule kitchen staff to foster a collaborative and efficient team.
- Manage inventory, purchasing, and food cost control while ensuring quality ingredients.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Step in for the Executive Chef as needed to manage operations during busy periods.
- Partner with event planners and front-of-house leaders to ensure seamless service for members and guests.
- Participate in menu tastings, cost analysis, and creative culinary development.
- Handle performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions when required.
- Support equipment maintenance and liaise with engineering/third-party vendors for repairs or upgrades.
- Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the club’s event-driven schedule.
Qualifications
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional training.
- 3–5 years of progressive kitchen experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role (private club, hotel, or fine dining preferred).
- Strong classical and contemporary culinary skills, including banquet production and seasonal menu planning.
- Proven leadership ability in managing and motivating a kitchen team.
- Skilled in inventory management, food costing, scheduling, and labor control.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to member-focused hospitality with an emphasis on quality and consistency.
