Job Summary
The QA/QC Manager ensures all baked goods meet stringent safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including BRC Global Standards, organic, non-GMO, and GFSI certifications. This role involves leading a team to oversee quality control, compliance, and environmental monitoring in a high-volume, 24/7 facility. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain QA/QC programs compliant with BRC Global Standards, organic, non-GMO, GFSI, FDA, USDA, and HACCP regulations.
- Coordinate and lead the quality control department, including performing sampling, testing, and scoring of raw materials and finished products.
- Oversee and train a quality assurance team to monitor production, packaging, and sanitation processes.
- Conduct internal audits and manage third-party audits to ensure ongoing compliance with certifications.
- Perform and supervise basic microbiological testing, plant swabbing for environmental monitoring, and allergen testing, with accurate documentation.
- Prepare, update, and maintain quality control reports and consumer comment reports to track performance and address issues.
- Ensure raw and finished product specifications meet organic, non-GMO, and GFSI certification standards.
- Sign off on compliance documents as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).
- Manage corrective and preventive actions to resolve non-conformities and drive continuous improvement.
- Train staff on food safety, GMP, and HACCP protocols to maintain compliance across all shifts.
- Monitor vendor/supplier approval and maintenance programs.
- Maintain traceability records for raw materials and finished products.
- Maintain and update quality assurance manuals, ensuring they are audit-ready and properly filed.
- Oversee master sanitation schedules and coordinate with Facilities and Plant Managers on maintenance work orders to meet all program requirements.
- Collaborate with Production, Plant Manager, and Ownership to align quality standards with operational and growth goals.
- Update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support new product development and quality initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in food science, microbiology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum five years of QA/QC experience in food manufacturing, preferably in bakery or high-volume environments.
- HACCP and PCQI certifications required, with ability to sign off on compliance documents.
- In-depth knowledge of BRC Global Standards, organic, non-GMO, GFSI, HACCP, GMP, FDA, and USDA regulations.
- Experience leading a team in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Strong skills in audit management, environmental monitoring, and corrective action processes.
- Excellent communication and training abilities to foster a culture of compliance.
Preferred Experience
- Prior work in bakery or confectionery manufacturing with automated production lines.
- Experience managing quality programs in a facility with 100+ employees.
- Familiarity with high-volume production, baking and packaging operations, and diverse product lines.
Reporting Structure
Reports to the Plant Manager and Ownership.
Work Environment
Full-time, salaried position in a fast-paced, 24/7/365 production environment requiring flexibility to oversee multiple shifts and collaborate with production, sanitation, and management teams. Must be bilingual in Spanish.
