Sous Chef – Upscale Casual Restaurant

Salary: $58,000–$65,000 + Bonus Potential + Benefits


A well-established upscale casual restaurant in Wichita is seeking a talented Sous Chef to join the culinary leadership team. This is a strong opportunity for a hands-on kitchen leader who enjoys high-volume execution, team development, scratch-inspired food, and maintaining consistent standards in a polished full-service environment.

We are looking for a Sous Chef who can support daily back-of-house operations, lead the line during peak volume, coach and train hourly team members, and help drive food quality, cleanliness, ticket times, and kitchen organization. This role is ideal for someone ready to grow their culinary leadership career with a strong restaurant group.


Sous Chef Responsibilities

  • Support daily back-of-house operations in a high-volume upscale casual restaurant
  • Lead kitchen team members during prep, service, and closing shifts
  • Maintain strong standards for food quality, plate presentation, cleanliness, and ticket times
  • Assist with inventory, ordering, prep levels, food cost control, waste reduction, and labor management
  • Train, coach, and develop cooks, prep team members, dish team members, and shift leads
  • Ensure proper recipe execution, portion control, sanitation, and food safety standards
  • Partner with the Executive Chef and management team to maintain consistent kitchen execution
  • Create a positive, organized kitchen culture built on teamwork, urgency, and accountability


Sous Chef Qualifications

  • Current or recent Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, Assistant Kitchen Manager, or culinary supervisor experience
  • Experience in full-service, upscale casual, polished casual, or high-volume restaurant environments
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to coach, train, and hold teams accountable
  • Solid understanding of food safety, prep systems, inventory, ordering, and cost controls
  • Ability to work hands-on and lead effectively during busy service periods
  • Passion for food quality, team development, and hospitality-driven execution
