About the Opportunity

A unique hospitality and wellness-focused organization in the Boone, North Carolina area is seeking a Controller to lead its in-house accounting and finance function. This is an important hire for an operation that is bringing key financial responsibilities in-house after historically relying on outside support.

This role is ideal for a hands-on finance leader who can balance strong accounting discipline with practical business partnership. The Controller will help create structure, improve reporting, strengthen processes, and support leadership with accurate and timely financial information.

This is not a role for someone who only wants to stay behind the scenes. The right person will be comfortable owning the details, building consistency, and working closely with leadership and operational departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day accounting and finance operations
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Oversee general ledger, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting
• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and payroll coordination
• Maintain fixed asset records and support internal controls
• Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Support audit preparation and coordination with outside partners as needed
• Help establish and improve accounting processes, workflows, and reporting rhythms
• Partner with operational leaders to improve financial visibility and accountability
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, and deadlines

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Finance, or similar senior accounting leader
• Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, financial reporting, and internal controls
• Experience owning or heavily supporting month-end close
• Ability to work both strategically and tactically
• Comfortable in a hands-on role within a growing or evolving environment
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance leaders
• High level of professionalism, sound judgment, and follow-through
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

Preferred Background

• Hospitality, resort, hotel, retreat center, club, or other multi-department service environment experience is strongly preferred
• Experience helping transition, build, or strengthen an in-house accounting function is a plus
