HR and People Operations Coordinator


Reports to: CEO

Location: Hybrid (Bay Area preferred)

Salary Range: $75,000–$90,000 DOE

Bilingual Required: Spanish and English


About the Role

We’re seeking a full-time HR & People Operations Coordinator to support our growing team as we expand to new locations. This role is critical in ensuring compliance, supporting onboarding and payroll, managing HR documentation, and assisting with recruitment efforts. You’ll also play a key role in maintaining internal job descriptions and helping shape our organizational structure as we grow.

This hybrid role offers flexibility for remote work but requires availability to travel to store locations as needed for HR investigations, audits, or in-person support. A transportation stipend, mileage reimbursement, and/or access to a company vehicle will be provided.


Key Responsibilities


Compliance & Administration

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws across all locations.
  • Maintain accurate labor postings and OSHA signage.
  • Track renewals and documentation for workers’ comp, EPLI, and insurance policies.
  • Lead annual handbook updates and policy rollouts in coordination with legal counsel.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and file systems.

Payroll, Onboarding & Systems

  • Oversee biweekly payroll processing, including hours audits and final paychecks.
  • Manage employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Conduct regular audits of I-9s, certifications, and onboarding documents.
  • Troubleshoot onboarding issues and coordinate with leadership as needed.

Employee Relations & HR Claims

  • Lead HR investigations and maintain proper documentation.
  • Support teams with progressive discipline, PIPs, and termination documentation.
  • Coordinate with legal counsel on employee claims, including PAGA, discrimination, and severance.
  • Serve as a trusted HR contact for managers and leadership.

Recruiting & Staffing Support

  • Screen job applicants and collaborate with hiring leads.
  • Monitor hiring pipelines and follow up on open roles to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Maintain updated job descriptions and hiring criteria for all positions.

Culture, Communication & Strategy

  • Organize events, celebrations, and recognition programs to support company culture.
  • Promote company values and mission through engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership to shape future organizational structure and people strategy.

Ideal Candidate

  • 2–5 years of HR experience in a generalist or coordinator role, ideally in restaurants, retail, or hospitality.
  • Fluent in both Spanish and English.
  • Familiar with California labor law, HR compliance, payroll systems, and employee documentation.
  • Strong communicator with a people-first mindset who can balance empathy with policy.
  • Comfortable working in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with ADP, Trainual, and Google Workspace preferred.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between store locations as needed.
