Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Finance/Controller to oversee the daily accounting operations of a luxury hospitality property. In this pivotal role, you will partner with the Director of Finance to maintain fiscal health, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive departmental productivity. You will lead the accounting team through critical financial cycles—including month-end closing, reporting, and annual budgeting—while fostering a culture of service excellence that aligns with Forbes Travel Guide and AAA standards.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Direct Oversight: Manage daily functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, General Cashier, Income Audit, and Financial Reporting.
- Closing & Analysis: Lead the month-end closing process, reconcile general ledger accounts, and perform detailed financial analysis to provide stakeholders with accurate, timely financial statements.
- Budgeting: Support the Financial Controller in preparing annual budgets, reviewing proposals, and compiling necessary justification documentation.
- Inventory Control: Collaborate with the Accounting Manager to monitor inventory valuation, costing, and reconciliation.
- Audit Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for external and internal audits, ensuring information is provided promptly.
Leadership & Team Development
- Team Management: Directly supervise the accounting staff, setting clear short- and long-term goals while verifying the accuracy of work produced daily.
- Culture Building: Foster a high-performing environment focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-departmental unity.
- Talent Development: Participate actively in the recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning for the accounting division.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Risk Mitigation: Assess and implement robust internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and minimize risk, ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable state/federal regulations.
- Policy Enforcement: Establish and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent monetary theft and maintain strict adherence to financial policies.
Strategic Planning & Systems
- Labor Efficiency: Analyze labor performance against standards, working with operational leaders to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline workflows for better accuracy and user experience.
- Systems Management: Assist in sourcing and implementing finance-related systems. Lead requirements gathering, testing, and training for new software integrations.
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting required. CPA or MBA is highly preferred.
- Industry Experience: Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive financial experience specifically within the hotel/hospitality industry.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Familiarity with MS Dynamics, hospitality inventory systems, and POS systems preferred

- Operational Acumen: Understanding of hotel data structures and workflows, with the ability to troubleshoot technical system dependencies.
