Assistant Director of Engineering

Location: Honolulu, HI

Salary $90K - $115K + Relocation Assistance

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Director of Engineering to join our team in Honolulu, HI at our prestigious 5-star property. This role is critical in ensuring the seamless operation, safety, and aesthetic excellence of our hotel. The ideal candidate will oversee and execute preventative maintenance programs, manage daily facility upkeep, and lead a team of skilled technicians to maintain the highest standards of luxury and guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Preventative Maintenance & Facility Management

• Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for all hotel systems and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
• Conduct regular inspections of the property to identify and address maintenance needs proactively.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and inspections to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.

Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical Systems

• Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, and sanitation.
• Ensure the efficient functioning of HVAC systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, to provide a comfortable environment for guests and staff.
• Supervise the maintenance and repair of electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, and emergency backup systems.

Painting & Aesthetic Maintenance

• Manage painting and finishing projects to maintain the hotel’s pristine appearance and luxury ambiance.
• Ensure all surfaces, fixtures, and furnishings are in excellent condition, reflecting the 5-star standards of the property.

Daily Maintenance Operations

• Lead and support the engineering team in addressing routine maintenance requests, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
• Coordinate with other departments to minimize disruptions to guest experiences during maintenance activities.
• Respond promptly to emergency maintenance issues, ensuring the safety and comfort of guests and staff.

Team Leadership & Training

• Assist the Director of Engineering in managing and mentoring the engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
• Provide training and guidance to team members on safety protocols, equipment operation, and maintenance best practices.
• Schedule and delegate tasks to ensure efficient use of resources and timely completion of projects.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and hotel standards.
• Conduct regular safety drills and inspections to maintain a safe working environment for staff and guests.
• Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to manage budgets, control costs, and procure necessary supplies and equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering or maintenance roles, required in a luxury hotel or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance programs.
• Proven leadership skills with experience managing and training a team.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with building management systems (BMS) and energy management systems (EMS) is a plus.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
