Job Summary
The Sous Chef plays a vital leadership role in delivering an exceptional culinary experience at a luxury full-service, fine-art inspired boutique hotel located just minutes from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. This position supports the Executive Chef in overseeing all kitchen operations, ensuring excellence in food quality, presentation, consistency, and world-class service across the restaurant, lounge, banquets, events, and other outlets.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a passion for high-volume hotel and restaurant cuisine who thrives in a dynamic, edgy, and social environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Chef in managing daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, production, and service for all outlets.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and motivate kitchen staff while maintaining high performance and positive team culture.
- Ensure consistent execution of menus with focus on quality, taste, presentation, and adherence to brand standards.
- Oversee inventory management, food ordering, cost control, and waste reduction to maximize profitability.
- Maintain strict compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and HACCP standards.
- Support menu development, special events, banquets, and seasonal offerings.
- Step in as the lead when the Executive Chef is absent.
- Collaborate with the Food & Beverage team to deliver outstanding guest satisfaction.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall hotel culinary excellence.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum **2 years** of experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar leadership culinary role in a high-volume professional kitchen (luxury hotel, full-service restaurant, or fine dining strongly preferred).
- Culinary degree or formal training preferred.
- Strong knowledge of kitchen equipment, food preparation techniques, and cost control.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a diverse kitchen team.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and peak business periods.
- Physically able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast-paced, hot kitchen environment.
