Assistant General Manager
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: 5-Day Workweek
We are seeking an experienced and hospitality-driven Assistant General Manager to join the leadership team of an upscale, high-end steakhouse in New York City. This is an excellent opportunity for a polished restaurant professional who understands exceptional guest service, team leadership, and the operational demands of a premium dining environment.
The Assistant General Manager will work closely with the General Manager to oversee daily operations, develop the management team, maintain service standards, and ensure an outstanding experience for every guest.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the General Manager with all aspects of daily restaurant operations.
- Lead and support front-of-house operations while maintaining exceptional service standards.
- Coach, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors, and hourly team members.
- Maintain a professional, polished, and hospitality-focused dining environment.
- Serve as a manager-on-duty and provide strong leadership during busy services.
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, floor plans, and labor deployment.
- Assist with controlling labor, food, beverage, and operating costs.
- Monitor sales and operational performance and assist with achieving financial goals.
- Ensure consistent execution of service standards, food quality, cleanliness, and restaurant presentation.
- Handle guest concerns with professionalism and ensure issues are resolved promptly.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily priorities and expectations.
- Work closely with the culinary team to ensure seamless coordination between the kitchen and dining room.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, and retaining team members.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and company policies.
- Assist with private events, large parties, special occasions, and high-volume services.
- Maintain strong relationships with guests and help build repeat business and guest loyalty.
- Support the General Manager with administrative, financial, and operational responsibilities.
- Lead by example and remain actively engaged on the restaurant floor.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in restaurant management, preferably in an upscale or fine-dining environment.
- Strong knowledge of front-of-house operations and exceptional guest service.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a restaurant team.
- Experience with scheduling, labor management, cost control, and operational standards.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional appearance and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and effective in a high-pressure environment.
- Kosher restaurant experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong understanding of hospitality and a genuine passion for creating memorable guest experiences.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.
Schedule
- 5-day workweek
- Full-time management position
- Schedule will include a combination of shifts based on business needs
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a polished, hands-on hospitality leader who understands the importance of service, attention to detail, and consistency in an upscale dining environment. You should be confident leading a team, comfortable working directly with guests, and capable of supporting the General Manager across all areas of the operation.
Experience working in a kosher environment is a plus, but candidates with strong upscale restaurant management experience are encouraged to apply.
