About Megan
Megan Black is a hospitality recruiter with Gecko Hospitality serving the Delaware, New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania market. Megan’s focus: Hospitality sales and business development; recruiting (NJ-South, PA-Eastern, DE).

Background & Experience
Over 25 years in sales and business development; Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Sales and Meeting Management (Johnson and Wales University); Master’s Degree in Hospitality Management (Fairleigh Dickinson University).

Areas of Focus
Positions: General Manager and Assistant General Manager; Director of Operations and Rooms Division leaders; Food & Beverage and Sales leadership; Executive Committee and senior hotel leadership; Multi-property and regional leaders

Markets served: Delaware, New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania.

How Megan Evaluates Talent
When evaluating hospitality talent, I look for leadership skills and P&L ownership, and I assess their track record in retention. I ask targeted questions in the interviewing process to uncover hidden potential in candidates. An example would be: how did they change a negative guest experience into a positive one?

Megan’s Market Perspective
In Delaware, New Jersey, and Eastern Pennsylvania, many hotels and country clubs are hiring, especially in housekeeping, maintenance, and front office departments. Strong candidates aren’t hard to spot: they show up, they can do more than one task, and they care about the guest. The challenge that keeps coming up is hours and turnover. The biggest shift I’m seeing is a move toward retention over just hiring in this market.

Advice
For employers: Have your job descriptions ready and your internal decision makers aligned.

For candidates: Prepare to discuss accomplishments, leadership success, and how you have impacted performance for the company you were at.

In Megan’s Words
“Real success is finding your passion in the career you love!”

Testimonials
“Working with Megan was an outstanding experience from beginning to end. She was professional, responsive, and genuinely invested in finding the right opportunity for me, not just any job. Throughout the process she communicated clearly, answered my questions, and kept me informed every step of the way. Thanks to her guidance, I accepted a Regional Director of Maintenance position that aligns with my experience and long-term career goals. I truly appreciate everything she did and would highly recommend Megan to anyone looking to take the next step in their hospitality career. Thank you.”
