About Tim
Tim Bishop is a restaurant recruiter with Gecko Hospitality serving the Georgia and South Carolina markets. His focus is on helping his restaurant clients fill each and every open hiring need at all levels, backed by more than 25 years of hands-on industry experience.
Background & Experience
Tim’s career includes serving as an Area Director for Bob Evans Restaurants across a three-state territory, working as a Chef at Walt Disney World, and beginning his career in country club catering.
Areas of Focus
Positions: General Manager and Assistant General Manager; Kitchen Manager and Executive Chef; Multi-unit, area, and district leaders; Director and senior operations roles
Markets served: Georgia, South Carolina.
How Tim Evaluates Talent
This is the hospitality business, and one of my key evaluations of a candidate is personality, energy, and enthusiasm, as that translates well into great hospitality. I also focus on what is important to them as they look for something new. My goal is to check as many boxes as I can in helping them find the best fit possible.
Tim’s Market Perspective
Georgia and South Carolina are two states that are in growth mode. Many markets in these two states are seeing a population explosion, including Greenville, SC and Myrtle Beach, SC, which have both been in the top three growth areas in the entire United States for the past three years. Atlanta, Georgia has become the Hollywood of the East Coast, and that has helped fuel growth and new restaurant openings in the Atlanta metro area.
Advice
For employers: Be ready to move quickly on quality candidates. Companies who take too long to make a decision miss out on some of the top candidates due to their hesitancy.
For candidates: When on a job search, always be ready: ready to respond quickly to a text, call, or email. Show us that you are serious about your search and organized in how you communicate.
In Tim’s Words
“I don’t measure success by how many times I’ve won, I measure it by how many times I refused to quit. I stay focused, keep learning, work harder when things get difficult, and trust that every setback is preparing me for something greater.”
