After months of being out of work, it can be frustrating to feel like there is no end in sight. At a certain point – we have two choices. We can either mope around and keep feeling sorry for ourselves, or we can use this season to better our professional selves. If we choose the latter, there are plenty of resources available to us (many for free) to work toward that next level. Take a look at the following resources below and see if any of them might be an option to consider exploring during this time.

When was the last time you dusted off your resume? Take a moment to reflect on your skills that you’ve gained from your last position and beyond. You probably need to make a few updates, right? Use our Gecko Resume Builder to give your resume a new fresh look!

Take Some Courses

Take a break from your Netflix queue and learn a new skill!

LinkedIn Learning offers over 16,000 free and paid courses. Learn how to effectively deliver an elevator pitch, manage your time better, or communicate better with your teammates.

Coursera is a leading online learning platform for higher education, where 71 million learners from around the world come to learn skills of the future. More than 200 of the world’s top universities and industry educators partner with Coursera to offer courses, specializations, certificates, and degree programs. Financial Aid is available for certain courses and certificates. Tip: Use the search bar to look for specific courses that may interest you. There’s a lot to choose from!

Learn a new language with Udemy or the popular app Duolingo. With your new skills in Spanish, French or Klingon (we don’t judge) you’re sure to find a use for it in our global industry!

Get Certified

Valued at more than $1,800 per course, Cvent is doing their part to help the hospitality industry get back on its feet by offering free certifications and trainings through December 31st. Use this time to sharpen your skills with trainings that include Event Management, Diagramming, and Venue Sourcing, or get certified in Cvent Virtual Meetings or Cvent Event Management.

Get Yourself Interview Ready

We’ve all used Zoom during the pandemic to stay in touch with our friends and family, but have you considered using it as a resource for interview prep? Set up an “interview” with a friend or former coworker, and stage a dress rehearsal for your first virtual interviews!
