Title of Position: Director of General Merchandise


Compensation: $120k to $140k+ along with relocation allowance.


Job Description: As the director of general merchandise, you will oversee all aspects of sales and merchandising for the general merchandise department across the company’s grocery stores and affiliated markets, working closely with the head of sales and merchandising to create and execute a cohesive vision and strategy. This role requires a deep understanding of general merchandise products, market trends, and customer preferences to drive sales, profitability, and ensure alignment with the company’s high standards. Key responsibilities include developing and executing sales and merchandising strategies, maintaining product assortments that reflect customer needs and trends, implementing competitive pricing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and overseeing inventory to balance availability and minimize waste. You will monitor sales data, market trends, and competition to identify growth opportunities, collaborate with marketing on promotions and events, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and company standards. Additionally, you will lead, manage, and develop both corporate and store-level staff, fostering education, performance, and alignment with company values, while maintaining close collaboration with other departments and the executive team to ensure programs and initiatives are effectively implemented.

Qualifications:

·      Proven managerial or leadership experience (3-5 years) within the grocery retail industry, with a strong ability to lead teams, manage multiple projects, and achieve results through others.

·      Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret data, formulate plans, and adapt to industry trends.

·      Excellent communication skills (oral and written), proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to present information effectively to various audiences.

·      Flexible and adaptable to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, including travel to store locations, neighboring islands, and internationally for initiatives and training.

·      Physically capable of handling office and store-based tasks, including periods of standing, walking, and occasional lifting of merchandise up to 20 pounds.
