Job Overview:

Our bakery in California is seeking a pastry design Manager to lead its talented decorating team. This role is ideal for a creative and experienced professional who excels in team management, ensuring consistency, quality, and excellence in cake production. Base Salary Target: $70,000 - $90,000


Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Oversee and manage the decorating team, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure productivity and skill development.
  • Quality Control: Maintain the highest standards for cake decoration, ensuring visual appeal, quality, and consistency in all designs.
  • Production Management: Plan and execute daily production schedules, meeting deadlines for orders, showcase items, and large-batch productions without compromising quality.
  • Training and Development: Train team members on decorating techniques, food safety protocols, and efficient workflows to develop overall team expertise.
  • Inventory Oversight: Manage inventory for decorating supplies, including fondant, icings, and tools, ensuring an uninterrupted flow of resources.
  • Creative Input: Design and refine cake decoration concepts to align with seasonal offerings, customer preferences, and branding.
  • Food Safety: Monitor and enforce food safety practices, maintaining compliance with health regulations and standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including baking and customer service teams, to ensure smooth operations and timely fulfillment of orders.


Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in cake decorating, including at least 1 year in a management or leadership role within a bakery or similar high-volume setting.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in advanced cake decorating techniques, fondant work, piping, airbrushing, and sculpting.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Skilled in operating commercial baking and decorating equipment like mixers, processors, airbrushes, and heating tools.
  • Certifications: Safe Food Handling certification is required upon hire.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Time Management: Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills to handle multiple orders and priorities effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for artistry, color combinations, and trend-setting designs to uphold and enhance product appeal.
