About the Opportunity
A growing winery, restaurant, and vineyard operation in Temecula Wine Country is seeking a collaborative and detail driven Controller to oversee accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and financial operations across multiple business entities.
This role is ideal for a hands on accounting leader who understands the complexity of multi entity hospitality, food and beverage, winery, and vineyard operations. The Controller will serve as both a strategic partner and operational leader, ensuring financial accuracy, process discipline, and strong accountability across the organization.
Position Overview
The Controller is responsible for managing the accounting function, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and accounting team leadership. This role will support multiple operating entities and provide financial insight that helps leadership make informed business decisions.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting experience, hospitality or winery operations exposure, and the ability to lead teams in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and bank reconciliations
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with accuracy and timeliness
Maintain strong internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial integrity
Manage intercompany transactions, allocations, and consolidations across multiple entities
Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Partner with HR and department leaders to support accurate payroll processing
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Prepare accurate financial statements for all entities and consolidated operations
Provide analysis of financial results, trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
Develop and monitor key financial metrics that support operational decision making
Partner with department leaders to connect financial performance with daily operations
Compliance and Audit
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and regulatory requirements
Coordinate annual financial audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors
Maintain audit ready financial records and documentation
Oversee sales tax, property tax, and other compliance filings as required
Systems and Process Improvement
Improve accounting systems, workflows, and reporting tools to increase accuracy and efficiency
Oversee integrations with systems such as POS, payroll, inventory, and accounting platforms
Recommend process improvements that support scalability and growth
Maintain system stability and reporting accuracy across key platforms
Leadership and Team Development
Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members
Create a culture of accountability, accuracy, urgency, and continuous improvement
Provide clear direction, training, and feedback to support team performance
Work alongside the team during peak periods, month end close, and deadline driven projects
Build strong partnerships with leaders across winery, restaurant, and vineyard operations
Ideal Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
CPA preferred
Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience
3 or more years in a Controller or accounting leadership role preferred
Experience in winery, food and beverage, restaurant, vineyard, or multi entity operations strongly preferred
Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and consolidated financial reporting
Experience leading accounting teams in a fast paced environment
Experience with accounting and ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms
Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now, Toast, OpenTable, Bill.com, QBO, or similar systems preferred
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
High attention to detail, confidentiality, and professional judgment
Schedule
Monday through Friday, based on business needs
Flexibility required to meet financial deadlines, close periods, audits, and critical reporting needs
