Assistant General Manager

Restaurant Operations

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to support daily restaurant operations, develop team members, and help drive business performance in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting the General Manager in operational execution, guest experience, team development, food quality, cleanliness, speed of service, and financial performance. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who leads by example, brings positive energy, and understands how to build a strong restaurant culture.

Position Overview

The Assistant General Manager helps lead day-to-day restaurant operations while supporting people development, systems execution, and business results.

This role requires strong leadership, operational discipline, and the ability to coach and influence team members. The AGM plays a key role in ensuring every shift delivers fast, friendly, and high-quality service.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

Support hiring, onboarding, training, and development of team members

Coach and develop Shift Leaders and team members through daily feedback and accountability

Build team engagement through communication and leadership presence

Support development of future restaurant leaders

Promote a culture of teamwork, urgency, ownership, and hospitality

Lead by example with professionalism, accountability, and positive energy

Operational Excellence

Support opening, shift transition, deployment, cleaning, and closing procedures

Ensure the restaurant is ready before all peak business periods

Lead effective team deployment during high-volume shifts

Maintain standards for food quality, accuracy, speed of service, and cleanliness

Partner with leadership to improve guest satisfaction and operational consistency

Remain calm and effective during busy periods and operational challenges

Business Performance

Support restaurant profitability through labor management, food cost control, waste reduction, and sales growth

Monitor key restaurant metrics including sales, transactions, labor, speed of service, guest feedback, and cost controls

Support local store marketing and community involvement

Identify operational opportunities and partner with the General Manager to improve results

Systems and Administration

Support ordering, inventory, cash handling, scheduling, and administrative systems

Maintain accurate operational records and documentation

Ensure company initiatives and operational standards are executed consistently

Keep communication boards, training tools, and operational materials current and organized

Cash Handling

Accurately process payments using the restaurant cash register system

Follow proper sales and cash handling procedures

Assign registers, complete cash counts, and investigate discrepancies

Follow all safe procedures and cash handling policies

Food Safety and Compliance

Maintain food safety and health department readiness

Ensure temperature logs, line checks, sanitation procedures, and food safety systems are followed

Ensure compliance with labor laws, safety standards, and company policies

Provide a safe environment for guests and team members

Protect restaurant assets while maintaining operational integrity

Performance Measurements

Sales and transaction growth

Labor performance and productivity

Speed of service and throughput

Guest feedback scores

Food quality and accuracy

Front-of-house and back-of-house cleanliness

Food safety and health inspection results

Team member development and retention

Shift execution and operational consistency

Waste management and cost control

Local store marketing and community engagement

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old

High school diploma or equivalent required

Minimum 1 to 3 years of restaurant leadership experience preferred

Food safety certification preferred or required within company timeframe

Food Handler Card required based on local or state requirements

Ability to work a 50-hour scheduled workweek, including weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays

Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment

Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills

Strong organizational, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities at once

Working knowledge of restaurant operations, labor management, food safety, and guest service systems

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and restaurant operating systems

Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift up to 40 pounds regularly
