James Karabelas is a results-oriented sales, marketing, and communications executive with a proven
track record in driving dynamic revenue growth, building strong brands, executing creative
marketing initiatives, and providing strategic vision. In his most recent role as the Regional Vice
President of Sales and Marketing for Highgate Hotels, James successfully led a team of 45 sales and
marketing professionals across 15 properties in the Hawaii region. Under his leadership, the
commercial strategy excelled, achieving all revenue targets for a diverse portfolio of full-service
independent and branded hotels.
With over 15 years of experience in the field, James previously served as the Vice President of
Marketing at Aqua-Aston Hospitality, a business division of Marriott Vacations Worldwide. During
his seven-year tenure, he played a pivotal role in shaping the company's brand marketing, media,
digital, ecommerce, and marketing technology strategies for a portfolio of more than 30 properties.
James oversaw the successful openings and rebranded of 10 independent and franchise properties
managed by Aqua- Aston.
Before his time at Aqua-Aston, James spearheaded the strategic development and management of e-
commerce and digital marketing programs at Castle Hospitality. Additionally, he contributed his
expertise as a Senior Strategist at Saatchi & Saatchi, a global advertising agency based in New
York.
Currently, James serves on the marketing committee of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.
James Karabelas holds a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management and Communications from
Boston University. He resides in Hawaii with his family.
