Job Description
General Manager
Extended-Stay Hotel | Hazelwood / St. Louis Airport Area
A growing extended-stay hotel company is seeking a hands-on General Manager to lead a weekly-stay property in the Hazelwood / St. Louis airport area. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced hotel operator who enjoys being active in the business, leading from the floor, and improving property standards through consistent daily execution.
This is not a traditional full-service hotel GM role. The property operates more like a hybrid between a hotel and apartment-style lodging, with weekly stays, limited operating hours, lean staffing, and a guest base that requires a confident, professional, and firm leader.
The right candidate will be visible, active, steady under pressure, and comfortable managing both people and property conditions.
Position Overview
The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and daily operation of the property, including guest relations, team leadership, housekeeping standards, maintenance coordination, labor management, financial performance, and property appearance.
This role requires someone who is willing to walk the property, inspect rooms, support the team, address guest concerns, enforce property expectations, and protect the physical condition of the hotel.
The successful candidate will be professional, approachable, and fair — but also comfortable holding guests and employees accountable.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily property operations
- Lead, coach, and motivate a small hourly team
- Maintain strong standards for cleanliness, room condition, safety, and guest experience
- Inspect rooms and common areas regularly
- Partner with housekeeping and maintenance to ensure property standards are met
- Handle guest issues in a calm, professional, and firm manner
- Enforce company policies and property expectations
- Manage labor standards and scheduling
- Support budgeting, forecasting, expense control, and P&L performance
- Monitor revenue, occupancy, and operational performance
- Maintain accurate administrative processes and required documentation
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with local officials, vendors, and community contacts
- Ensure compliance with company standards and local requirements
- Identify potential local sales leads and communicate them to the appropriate sales team
- Create a stable, accountable, team-focused work environment
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a hands-on hotel leader who enjoys being actively involved in the day-to-day operation.
This person should be:
- Firm but professional
- Comfortable with difficult guest situations
- Strong with hourly team leadership
- Able to work in a lean-staffed environment
- Highly visible and property-focused
- Comfortable inspecting rooms and walking the property daily
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Able to enforce standards consistently
- Calm under pressure
- Comfortable working in a more challenging extended-stay environment
- Focused on improving standards, guest behavior, room quality, and team performance
Preferred Experience
- Hotel General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Hotel Manager, Operations Manager, or similar property-level leadership experience
- Extended-stay, weekly-stay, economy, limited-service, or select-service hotel experience preferred
- Experience managing housekeeping, maintenance, guest relations, labor, and property standards
- Experience leading hourly employees
- P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and labor management experience preferred
- Experience working in a challenging guest environment is a plus
- Familiarity with local municipal requirements, inspections, or community relationships is helpful
Backgrounds That May Fit Well
Candidates may come from:
- Extended-stay hotels
- Limited-service hotels
- Economy lodging
- Select-service hotels
- Weekly-stay properties
- Hands-on hotel operations leadership
This role is best suited for someone who has been close to the operation, not someone who has only worked in a heavily layered or highly corporate hotel environment.
Requirements
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance
- Must be able to complete a background check and drug screen
- Must be able to travel for a three-week company training program
- Must be comfortable working a hands-on, active leadership role
- Must be comfortable working with a lean team and a demanding guest base
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $65,000–$70,000
- Quarterly performance-based bonus opportunity
- Additional tenure-based bonus opportunity over time
- Weekly pay
- Medical, dental, and vision benefits
- 401(k)
- Paid time off
- Company-provided training
Schedule
The property operates with more limited hours than a traditional hotel.
- Open Monday through Saturday
- Closed Sundays
- Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas
- Typical GM schedule is approximately 10:00 AM–7:00 PM, with flexibility needed when operational issues arise
Why This Role Could Be Attractive
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to truly run the building and make a visible impact. The right leader will have the chance to continue improving standards, stabilize the team, maintain a safe and professional guest environment, and protect the progress already made at the property.
This role offers a better schedule than many hospitality leadership positions, strong bonus potential, and the opportunity to lead an important property for a growing extended-stay hotel company.
Confidentiality Note
The company name and property name are being kept confidential during the early stages of the search. Additional details will be shared with qualified candidates during the interview process.
