Job Description

Production Manager

Confidential Company | Charlotte, NC

Base Salary: $65,000–$75,000+ depending on experience

Travel: Occasional travel required based on event needs

About the Opportunity

A growing event production and audio-visual services company is seeking a hands-on Production Manager to support the continued expansion of its national event business. This role is ideal for someone who understands the moving parts behind successful live events: equipment, labor, trucking, timing, site logistics, hotel coordination, and last-minute problem solving.

The company has experienced significant growth in its event volume and is looking for a leader who can bring structure, planning, and operational discipline to a fast-moving environment. This person will help manage the flow of AV equipment, crew planning, transportation coordination, and event preparation across multiple cities.

This is not a desk-only role. The right candidate will be comfortable working in and around a warehouse, reviewing event details, coordinating with internal teams, communicating with hotels or venues, and occasionally traveling to support events on-site.

Position Summary

The Production Manager will oversee the logistical planning and execution support for multiple events, ensuring that equipment, staffing, trucking, and site needs are organized well in advance. This person will work closely with operations, warehouse, sales, and event teams to make sure each show is properly prepared and executed.

The ideal candidate has experience in event production, AV services, hotel banquets, event logistics, or warehouse/event rental operations. Strong common sense, organization, and the ability to anticipate problems before they happen are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate equipment, staffing, trucking, and logistics for multiple events across different markets.
  • Oversee the movement of AV gear in and out of the warehouse.
  • Work with warehouse team members to ensure equipment is pulled, staged, returned, counted, and ready for future events.
  • Review upcoming event schedules and plan gear and labor needs several weeks or months in advance.
  • Coordinate with trucking partners to manage outbound and return logistics.
  • Determine whether equipment should return to the warehouse or move directly to another event location.
  • Review hotel and venue layouts to identify potential production or logistical concerns.
  • Communicate with hotels, venues, catering teams, and internal stakeholders regarding load-in details, room layouts, freight elevators, loading docks, access points, timing, and site requirements.
  • Help schedule crews for events, including travel needs when applicable.
  • Identify missing equipment, additional gear needs, or potential problems before they affect the event.
  • Conduct or support site visits when needed.
  • Provide on-site event support when business needs require it.
  • Help create better systems and processes as the company continues to grow.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and urgency in a fast-paced event environment.

Ideal Background

The right candidate may come from one of several related backgrounds, including:

  • Event production
  • Audio-visual services
  • Hotel banquet operations
  • Convention services
  • Event logistics
  • Event rental operations
  • Warehouse operations for an event, staging, AV, or rental company
  • Live event operations
  • Corporate event support

Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating live events, AV production, hotel events, event logistics, or warehouse/event rental operations.
  • Working knowledge of AV equipment, event setup, and basic production needs.
  • Ability to understand room layouts, event diagrams, and venue logistics.
  • Experience coordinating labor, crews, schedules, vendors, or transportation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple events at once.
  • Ability to plan ahead and avoid last-minute scrambling.
  • Strong communication skills with internal teams, hotel contacts, venues, vendors, and field crews.
  • Comfort working in a warehouse and event production environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally based on event needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and practical judgment.
  • Professional appearance and customer-facing presence when representing the company on-site.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with an AV company, event production company, hotel, conference center, event rental company, or staging company.
  • Familiarity with hotel operations, banquet departments, freight elevators, loading docks, site visits, and event floorplans.
  • Experience working with trucking companies or coordinating transportation logistics.
  • Experience supporting multi-city or national events.
  • Knowledge of basic AV equipment such as screens, projectors, speakers, microphones, cables, power, and related event gear.

Compensation

The expected base salary range is $65,000–$75,000+, depending on experience. Candidates with stronger production, AV, logistics, or event leadership experience may be considered at a higher level.

Why This Role Matters

This is an opportunity to join a growing company at an important stage of expansion. The business is handling more events, larger shows, and more complex logistics than ever before. The Production Manager will play a key role in helping the company scale successfully by bringing organization, planning, and leadership to a busy event operation.

The person who succeeds in this role will be the one who sees what needs to happen before anyone has to ask. Tim described the need as someone who can manage gear, staffing, trucking, and hotel logistics while planning well ahead instead of waiting until the last minute.
